THE PIECES series

COLLAGE OF REWORKED ENAMEL

The Pieces are made by recycling my “discarded” enamel paintings. Cut into rectangles of various sizes and fired with a clear layer of flux, some under-fired for a textured surface. The finished pieces are mounted with spacers of varying thickness onto wood panels. The finished works are a collage of multi colored “tiles” with assorted surface textures, mounted at slightly different heights off the panel.

To recycle materials “discarded” paintings are cut on the bench shear into smaller rectangular pieces before additional enamel is added.

A clear “flux” coat of enamel is applied to the cut pieces and then set on top of the kiln to allow the adhesive to dry before firing.

Designing the finished reworked enamel pieces into a collage, planning where each piece will be placed.
